Energy-Saving Support for Private Rented, Owner-Occupied, Shared Ownership & Social Housing Homes

The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is a UK Government initiative designed to help households reduce energy bills and improve home comfort through funded insulation upgrades. Whether you rent, own, or share ownership of your home, GBIS could help you benefit from free or subsidised insulation, depending on your eligibility.

At Efficient Energy Homes Ltd, we help households and landlords qualify, assess properties, and coordinate the full process-all in line with PAS 2035 and TrustMark requirements.

Who is GBIS For?

GBIS is open to a wide range of property types and household situations:

Owner-Occupied Homes

If you own your home and it has a poor EPC rating (D–G), you may qualify for insulation support-especially if you are on a low income or vulnerable to cold.

Private Rented Properties

Landlords can apply for eligible tenants to receive insulation measures to meet Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) and improve EPC ratings.

Shared Ownership Homes

Residents in shared ownership properties may be eligible, provided the EPC band and household circumstances meet the GBIS criteria.

Social Housing

Social housing tenants with properties in EPC bands D to G may qualify, particularly for cavity wall or loft insulation measures.

What Does GBIS Cover?

Unlike ECO4, which funds full whole-house retrofits, GBIS focuses on single insulation measures to deliver immediate improvements in energy efficiency. These may include:

  • Cavity Wall Insulation
  • Loft Insulation
  • Solid Wall Insulation (where applicable)
  • Room-in-Roof Insulation
  • Underfloor Insulation
  • Draught Proofing (in some cases)

These measures can dramatically reduce heat loss, lower heating bills, and improve comfort-especially in older or poorly insulated properties.

How We Help – The Efficient Energy Homes Ltd Process

We simplify the journey for landlords and residents, handling everything from assessment to installation:

  1. Eligibility Check
We assess if your household, property type, and EPC rating qualify for GBIS funding.
  2. Free Insulation Survey
A certified Retrofit Assessor will inspect your home and determine the most effective insulation solution.
  3. Ventilation Compliance
We ensure any works are compliant with Building Regulations Part F, keeping your home safe and healthy.
  4. Project Coordination
Our PAS 2035 Retrofit Coordinators manage the entire process for you, ensuring high-quality, compliant delivery.
  5. Trusted Installers
We hand your project over to a TrustMark-registered PAS 2030 installer to carry out the works.
